Capitals take Down the Falcons 8-4 for the 2011 Home OpenerSaturday, November 12th: Falcons 4 - Capitals 8 Prior to the start of the game, the Magnuson Cup was brought onto the ice and the Capitals players and staff were introduced to a very lively crowd. A great crowd, camera crews, radio broadcasters and a good number of kids helped make our home opener a fun night. The Caps started the scoring early as #2 Arik Lebda buried the first goal with just a mere 2:41 off the game clock. #12 Nick Cinquegrani and #27 Dale Michonski finished the scoring for the Caps in the first period. But the Falcons answered back by finding the back of the net 3 times as well. Second period #27 Dale Michonski dazzled the crowd by toe-dragging his way to the net and buying a goal for the Capitals. Less than 7 mins later #12 Nick Cinquegrani also found the back of the net again. The Falcons #16 BJ Gottsacker answered less than a minute later making the score, Capitals 5 - Falcons 4 after 2 periods of play. The Capital's goalie #20 Doug Bair held the Falcons scoreless in the 3 period. #7 Trevor Graham, #23 Taylor Paine and #9 Dominick Bellavia (first goal in the GLHL) all scored for the Capitals. Caps are 3-0 in the GLHL 2011 Season. Capitals Players will be Shaving Their Heads to Help Cure Childhood CancerThe Vernon Hills Capitals will be hosting a St. Baldrick's event and several players will be shaving their heads right on the ice. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. As of now, the following players will be accepting donations to get their heads shaved: Home OpenerSaturday November 12thCaps will be home for a 2 game home stand, playing the Eagle River Falcons first on November 12th. Then the following week taking on the revamped Madison Blues on November 19th at 8pm. Home opener will be Illinois Center for Broadcasting 2 for 1 student night. The internet radio show, "The Triple Threat Show" which is broadcasted by the school will be in attendance. Along with that the ICB has signed on to broadcast the Capital's home games on www.Chicagolandsportsradio.com, Where games could be heard live and be available for download.
